Qualification Overview

The Focus Awards Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning and Well-Being Operational Services (RQF) is aimed at those learners working in a sport activity environment who work with other staff and customers and for staff who use and maintain equipment and facilities, including caravan parks. This qualification will provide learners with the necessary skills, knowledge and competence across areas such as health and safety, supporting teams, providing good customer service and using/ maintaining activity equipment.

 

Qualification Structure

To achieve this qualification, learners must complete the following 4 mandatory units and gain 7 credits from the list of optional units.

Mandatory

  • Support the work of the team and organisation
  • Promote health, safety and welfare in active leisure and recreation
  • Support equality and diversity in active leisure and recreation
  • Give customers a positive impression of yourself and your organisation

Optional

  • Use and maintain ride-on powered equipment
  • Use and maintain non-powered and hand held powered tools and equipment
  • Use and maintain pedestrian controlled powered equipment
  • Use and maintain chippers and/or shredders
  • Resolve customer service problems
  • Operate plant to provide and maintain an ice surface
  • Prepare hard standings and paths for caravans
  • Contribute to environmental conservation in active leisure and recreation
  • Maintain the safety of the pool environment and its users
  • Maintain the safety of the ice rink environment and its users
  • Process payments for purchases
  • Provide a facility reception service
  • Support other team members in their work
  • Set up, take down and store activity equipment
  • Check and service activity equipment
  • Site caravans on parks
  • Clean and tidy facility areas
  • Deal with substances hazardous to health
  • Operate plant to maintain the quality of pool water
  • Maintain grounds of premises and facilities
  • Maintain site security and safety
  • Monitor and maintain electrical and plumbing services
  • Carry out maintenance and minor repairs
  • Check and maintain sport/play surfaces and equipment

 

Qualification Type

The Level 2 NVQ in Active Leisure, Learning and Well-Being Operational Services (RQF) is a work based qualification accredited on the Regulated Qualification Framework (RQF). The RQF framework gives learners the opportunity to get the qualifications they need, in a way that suits them. RQF qualifications are designed with the help of employers so learners can be assured that they’re gaining skills that employers are looking for.

The RQF:

  • Recognises smaller steps of learning and enables learners to build up qualifications bit by bit
  • Helps learners achieve skills and qualifications that meet industry needs
  • Enables work-based training to be nationally recognised.

 

Learner Entry Requirements

The qualification requires physical exertion and individual participation is essential, therefore a degree of physical fitness is necessary.

There is an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) and application of number involved, and learners should have basic skills in communication and application of number at levels 3 and 2 respectively.

 

Employment Opportunities

On achievement of the Focus Awards Level 2 NVQ Certificate in Active Leisure, Learning and Well-Being Operational Services (RQF) learners may progress in a number of areas within sport, leisure and fitness centres or outdoor activity centres in roles such as leisure centre assistant, recreation assistant, leisure centre plant operations, sports coach or customer care provider.

 

Qualification Progression Routes

Learners wishing to progress from this qualification can undertake the following qualifications or any qualification at level 3 within the sector:

  • Level 4 NVQ in Sport and Active Leisure
  • Level 3 Certificate in Personal Training
  • Level 3 Diploma in Leisure Management
  • Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Leisure Operations

 

Industry

The Register of Exercise Professionals (REPS) have provided a letter of recognition for the qualification indicating that the qualification is fit for purpose in terms of work based learning and progression within the health and fitness sector and is deemed a specialist category their professional register.
