Qualification Overview

The Focus Awards Level 3 Certificate in Leisure Management (QCF) aims to provide learners with the knowledge and skills to work as a leisure manager within an active leisure environment.

 

This qualification is aimed at:

  •  Learners aged 16+ who would like to pursue a career in the active leisure industry as a leisure manager.
  • Supervisors / duty managers that would like a qualification to help them progress to the next level as a leisure manager.
  • Current leisure managers that would like a nationally recognised qualification to formalise their experience and skills within their current role.
  • Active leisure facilities (health club, leisure centre, hotel etc…) that require their existing supervisory/management staff to hold a nationally recognised qualification to improve their service delivery, overall management of staff and the customer service within their establishment.

To successfully achieve this qualification, learners must complete all 6 of the following mandatory units and 1 unit chosen from the remaining optional units.

 

Mandatory

  •  Understanding how to lead a team in active leisure
  • Promoting customer care in active leisure
  • Understanding how to manage health, safety and welfare in active leisure
  • Understanding employment rights and responsibilities
  • Understanding the active leisure and learning sector
  • Continuing professional development in active leisure

 

Optional

  • Understanding financial procedures in active leisure
  • Understanding how to deliver objectives through the work of an active leisure team
  • Understanding how to supervise facility maintenance in active leisure
  • Marketing in active leisure
  • Understanding how to sell services and products to customers in active leisure
  • Operating swimming pool plant

Qualification Type
The Level 3 Certificate in Leisure Management  (QCF) is a work based qualification accredited on the Regulated Qualification Framework (QCF).

The QCF framework gives learners the opportunity to get the qualifications they need, in a way that suits them. QCF qualifications are designed with the help of employers so learners can be assured that they are gaining skills that employers are looking for.

The QCF:

  • Recognises smaller steps of learning and enables learners to build up qualifications bit by bit
  • Helps learners achieve skills and qualifications that meet industry needs
  • Enables work-based training to be nationally recognised.

 

Learner Entry Requirements
There are no specific entry requirements for this qualification but there is also an element of communication (discussing, presenting, reading and writing) involved and learners should have basic skills in communication at level 2.

 

Employment Opportunities
On successfully achieving this qualification learners could potentially gain employment as a

  • Duty Manager
  • Supervisor

 

Qualification Progression Routes
On achieving this qualification learners could look to progress onto Level 4 qualifications covering management and leadership qualifications. Learners could also look to move onto the following qualifications:

  •  Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Leisure Management
  • Advanced Level Apprenticeship in Leisure Management.

 

Industry

The Register of Exercise Professional (REPS) have provided a letter of recognition for the qualifications indicating that the qualification is fit for purpose in terms of progress into employment within the health and fitness sector.
