Focus Awards helps keep the traditional Tirumalai Krishnamacharya Yoga Teaching alive…
Tirumalai Krishnamacharya, widely regarded as the “Father of Modern Yoga”, has arguably influenced every teacher of the “mind and body” disciplines of Yoga around the world, regardless of their personal and professional roots.
With Krishnamacharya’s teachings firmly in mind, Lesley Isaacson and Mary Mackie, of the Yoga Training Centre, approached us with the specific remit to assist them develop a brand new Level 4 Diploma in Teaching Yoga. They were adamant that the qualification should be developed along the traditional disciplines pioneered by Krishnamacharya, and become the “Rolls-Royce of Yoga qualifications; the gold standard for learners and for the industry.”
Both Lesley and Mary deliberately set out to “raise the game” among industry professionals to meet the exacting standards of an Ofqual regulated course. Their combined 30 years of experience in the industry, and their conversations with potential learners, led them to ‘separate the wheat from the chaff’ in the yoga marketplace, which they say is replete with opportunities to train as Yoga teachers. They know just how challenging it is for learners to find training that provides the right blend of necessary skills and understanding to develop into sensitive professionals and effective yoga teachers in a realistic timeframe.
We worked tirelessly with these two Yoga professionals to produce a qualification that “ticked all the boxes” of the initial remit, and the new qualification is testament to that effort. Exclusive to Focus Awards, the Level 3 Award in the Foundations of Yoga closely follows the teachings and methodologies pioneered by Tirumalai Krishnamacharya. We are proud to be able to make it available to Yoga teachers throughout the UK and worldwide, and to help make such a positive impact on the industry.
Lesley Isaacson and Mary Mackie, of the Yoga Training Centre, said that the qualification development process with Focus Awards was straightforward and supportive, and that ”it has been a helpful process for our Centre, too, as it enabled us to crystallise our thinking around qualification details to ensure clarity and lack of ambiguity.”
Joshua Cole, Focus Awards’ CEO, said “We are absolutely delighted to have been instrumental in bringing this fantastic qualification into being. Developing brand-new, groundbreaking qualifications is something Awarding Organisations live for. It’s been an absolute privilege working with Lesley and Mary, and we hope other teachers and training providers will seek us out to help them in the future.”
