Steve Johnson (Chair)
Steve has a strong background in Compliance and Risk Management. He is currently head of Oxygen Professional Risks, a leading specialist in Liability Insurance for the Psychological Professions.
An insurance broker for all of his working life, Steve has specialised in this field since 1988 when he and a colleague launched a unique insurance facility for members of the British Psychological Society. His foresight and leadership drove rapid growth of the service, which quickly expanded into the related professions, including Counseling and
Psychotherapy, Hypnotherapy, HR, Training & Developme
Steve has presented workshops and delivered seminars on Risk and Insurance in Counseling at conferences and on training courses. In the late 1990’s he was a founder member of a national forum evaluating standards in Primary Care Counseling and Psychotherapy, and has contributed to the BACP Professional Standards Committee. Steve is currently Series Consultant and Contributor to a forthcoming book – Psychotherapy 2.0 Where Psychotherapy and Technology Meet – (Karnac; UKCP series).
A staunch advocate for timely intervention and risk mitigation, Steve has constantly been at the cutting edge of innovation within the sector, and is the first port of call for practitioners when things have gone wrong. He is a trusted mentor and facilitator when they find themselves faced with a complaint or a potential claim for compensation.
Frances Rogers MSc PhD Registered MBACP
Dr. Rogers has extensive experience of working within the NHS from 1974 – 1999, having operated both as a clinician and in a managerial capacity before undertaking Professional Counsellor training in 2002. Frances worked in a psychiatric outpatients department as a student counsellor then as a Volunteer counsellor prior to setting up in private practice.
Frances is an expert in the experience of whiplash injury and has worked in Higher Education as a Lecturer since 2008. She also provides counselling and supervision to students undertaking Professional Counsellor training, as well as being a Barnardos approved adoptions counsellor and supervisor.
John Thorpe was the Operations Director (Technical Services) for the Sector Skills Council (SSC) Skills Active for almost 14 years, working extensively on National Occupational Standards, Apprenticeships and Qualifications across the UK. He was also a Senior Lecturer at Sheffield College for 10 years.
John has a strong background in Quality Assurance, and still practices as a qualified External Quality Assurer and External Verifier.
Mike has worked in Further Education for over 30 years and for the last ten years has been an education and training consultant working with a large number of Colleges and Training providers on a range of projects. The majority of his work has involved improving the quality of learning and teaching, and enhancing learners’ experiences. Previously he worked as a manager in the hospitality and tourism industry for twelve years.
His spare time is spent doing voluntary work and his interests include cycling, rugby, music, cooking and travel.
